Students from the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) have once again showcased their excellence by winning both national and international competitions with innovative, sustainability-driven food products.

At the International Innovation Competition (IIC) 2024, organized by the International University of Malaya-Wales in October 2024, three TPHP students—Annaria Januari Christy (TPHP 2021), Novie Fitrita Wulandari (TPHP 2021), and Meutia Wigi Liestyana (TPHP 2023)—won a bronze medal for their plant-based innovation, “TEMPTASTIC: Plant-Based Sausage.” Their creation was guided by their academic supervisor, Putrika Citta Pramesi, S.T.P., M.Sc. The competition drew participants from five countries, including 28 universities and 10 secondary schools.

TEMPTASTIC stood out for its creative use of plant-based ingredients, offering a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and marketable alternative to conventional sausages. This achievement highlights the students’ ability to transform local natural resources into high-value, globally competitive products.

In addition to their international success, five other TPHP students won accolades at the National Essay Competition, held on December 3, 2024, and organized by the Department of TPHP UGM in collaboration with the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery, University of Borås, Sweden.

  • Trisha Nadira Gianufian, Muhammad Attar Gibran, and Bernadeta Tresnanira won 1st place with their innovation, MycoRush, a protein bar made from mycoprotein.
  • Annaria Januari, Christy, and Nadya Biantri earned 2nd place with I’m-D (Impactful Mycoprotein Drink).

These outstanding projects demonstrate the creativity and commitment of the younger generation in developing sustainable food products. Their work contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.
