Guest Lecture on Plant Design Evaluation: Detection of Potential Hidden Problems in Processing Unit Design

  • Department News, Guest Lecture

On Thursday, May 6, 2021, the TPHP UGM Factory Design Evaluation course held a guest lecture with the theme “Detection of Potential Hidden Problems in Processing Unit Design”. This guest lecture was presented by Y.P. Diksi Agni Kustanta from PT Dain Celicani Citra Cemerlang and hosted by Dr.nat.techn. FMC Sigit Setyabudi, S.T.P., M.P., TPHP UGM lecturer. The guest lecture, which took place at 11:00-12:40 WIB, was conducted through the Ms Teams platform and attended by 115 participants.

In designing the processing unit, 5M tools of management are needed so that the industry can run according to the rules. The 5M tools include money, manpower, machine, method, and materials. Money is related to profit and capital, manpower is related to human resources, machines are related to machines and buildings, methods are related to work methods, procedures, and SOPs, and materials are related to the materials to be processed.

Processing units in the industry that need to be considered for potential hidden problems include raw materials, production, storage, laboratories, waste treatment, factory construction, land preparation for raw materials and factories, production that relies on manpower, and surface water treatment. The raw materials that need to be considered are the quality, quantity, and continuity of materials. Checking the quality of these materials requires SOPs so that they meet the standards. In addition, a HACCP plan is also needed to avoid hazards.

In the production zone, what needs to be considered is ensuring that the stage capacity must match the demand. In addition, HACCP and cleaning processes also need to be considered because they are related to the application of sanitation in the industry. The cleaning process that is usually carried out is Cleaning in Place (CIP). Factors that affect CIP are time (time), temperature (temperature), technology (cleaning method), turbulence (cleaning flow), and titration (concentration of sanitizer used). The laboratory must also pay attention to individual workflows to avoid contamination. In addition, the selection of tools is also recommended to choose tools that already have calibration.

“In addition to paying attention to the hard skills we have in designing processing units, soft skills are also important for us to have so that the 5M tools of management in the industry can run well and in accordance with the rules,” said Mr. Diksi.
