Guest Lecture by Prof. Beom Soo Kim Discusses Strategies for Publishing in High-Impact Journals

  • Guest Lecture

The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture on May 5, 2026, featuring Prof. Beom Soo Kim from Chungbuk University, South Korea, with the topic “How to Publish in High-Impact Journals.” The event provided insights for students and researchers on strategies for writing and publishing scientific articles in reputable international journals.

In his presentation, Prof. Kim explained that his laboratory focuses on research in the fields of biochemicals, nanomaterials, bioplastics, and anticancer bioplastics. The research includes polymer synthesis from vegetable oils for drug delivery systems, NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) production, graphene-based nanomaterials, and vegetable oil-based bioplastics for anticancer applications.

Prof. Kim emphasized that publishing in high-impact journals is important for increasing research impact, supporting academic careers, and enhancing global visibility. According to him, journal editors pay close attention to novelty, research significance, and clarity of presentation. Therefore, researchers must be able to prepare manuscripts that are not only supported by strong data but also presented through compelling scientific storytelling.

During the session on article writing strategies, Prof. Kim shared important tips for each section of a manuscript. Titles should be specific and engaging, abstracts should include key findings supported by numerical data, and introductions should follow a clear storytelling flow from problem identification to research solutions. He also highlighted the importance of reproducible methods, strong discussions supported by data comparisons, and figures that can clearly convey messages at a glance.

In closing, Prof. Kim stated that high-quality scientific papers are not only determined by good research, but also by effective strategies in designing research and preparing manuscripts. He emphasized that the combination of novelty, strong data, a clear storyline, and high-quality figures are the main keys to achieving publication in high-impact international journals.
