A faculty member of the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Universitas Gadjah Mada, Bambang Dwi Wijatniko, S.T.P., M.Agr.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., has achieved international academic recognition by receiving the Best Oral Presentation Award in the Science, Technology, and Innovation cluster at The International Halal Science and Technology Conference (IHSATEC) 2025: 18th Halal Science Industry and Business (HASIB). The award acknowledges the excellence of his research contribution as well as the clarity and rigor of its academic presentation.
The award was presented during the conference held on 19 December 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. IHSATEC 2025 serves as a prominent international forum bringing together academics, researchers, and industry practitioners from various countries to discuss recent developments in halal science and technology, including product innovation, processing technologies, and their broader implications for industry and society.
Dr. Bambang received the award for his research entitled “Development and Application of Plant-Based Binder from Protein Concentrate Pigeon Pea (Cajanus cajan L. Millsp.)”. The study focuses on the development of a plant-based binding agent derived from pigeon pea protein concentrate, a legume commodity with significant potential that remains underutilized in the food industry.
Using a comprehensive scientific approach, the research explores the functional properties of pigeon pea protein and its application as a binding ingredient in food products. The findings contribute not only to advancements in food technology innovation but also to the development of alternative ingredients aligned with halal principles and the growing demand for plant-based resources in modern food systems.
IHSATEC is jointly organized by the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, and the Research Synergy Foundation. The conference has consistently served as an academic platform that fosters interdisciplinary and international exchange of ideas, while providing opportunities for participants ranging from students to senior researchers to present their latest scientific work.
Dr. Bambang’s achievement is expected to inspire members of the academic community—particularly faculty members and students—to continue pursuing research that is relevant, innovative, and capable of generating broader societal impact.
