Semarang, October 27, 2025 — Graduate students from the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, deepened their understanding of industrial-scale food production through an educational visit to two leading food companies in Indonesia: PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sido Muncul Tbk. and PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk. Noodle Division Semarang.
The visit, designed for first-year master’s students in Food Science and Technology and Agro-Product Technology, brought together 27 participants for an immersive learning experience that bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications in the food industry.
At Sido Muncul, students observed firsthand the company’s comprehensive production systems—from the storage and quality control of simplisia and non-simplisia raw materials to multi-stage packaging lines and advanced R&D facilities. They explored laboratories dedicated to formulation, microbiology, instrumentation, PCR, and pharmacology, gaining insights into how scientific principles translate into innovation and product quality. An interactive discussion session further allowed students to reflect on the company’s philosophy of integrating traditional wisdom with modern technology.
The second visit took place at Indofood’s Noodle Division, where students followed the step-by-step process of instant noodle production—from dough mixing and shaping to frying, drying, and packaging. They also learned about the company’s waste management strategies, emphasizing sustainability and environmental responsibility in large-scale operations. The session concluded with a presentation and open discussion with Indofood’s production team, providing students with deeper industrial perspectives on efficiency and product safety.
These visits not only broadened students’ academic horizons but also underscored the importance of sustainable innovation within Indonesia’s growing food industry. The experience encouraged them to view food production systems through a holistic lens—balancing productivity, safety, and environmental stewardship.
Aligned with Universitas Gadjah Mada’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) through experiential learning, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by strengthening academia–industry partnerships, and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through exposure to environmentally conscious production systems.
