Yogyakarta – The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing the quality of education by organizing a training program for vocational school (SMK) teachers from various regions across Indonesia. Held from Thursday (September 25) to Thursday (October 2), the program aimed to equip teachers with the latest scientific knowledge and practical laboratory skills, while enhancing their capacity to design project-based learning in the field of food technology.
The training was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ir. Tyas Utami, M.Sc., Head of the Department of TPHP UGM, followed by a sourdough-making workshop led by Dr. Rini Yanti, S.T.P., M.P. and her teaching team. The program was structured into two major components—theory and practice—each guided by UGM lecturers specializing in their respective areas of expertise.
During the theoretical sessions, participants received training on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), microbiology, food safety, industrial culture, quality control, and nutrient analysis of key food components such as protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, ash, and calorie content. The practical sessions, meanwhile, engaged participants in hands-on laboratory analyses using the sourdough they had produced—covering tests for moisture, ash, fiber, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and microbiological evaluation.
As the program concluded, participants presented their group projects, completed a post-test, and joined a final evaluation session. The training closed with the presentation of certificates of completion, symbolizing the participants’ achievement in mastering the competencies covered throughout the course.
Through this initiative, TPHP UGM continues to strengthen its role in empowering educators in the field of food technology. Beyond theoretical learning and laboratory practice, the program provides teachers with valuable hands-on experience that can be applied to project-based learning within their respective schools.
