The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the theme “Enhancing Global Recognition through Expanding Networks with Industry Partners and Overseas Universities.” Held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, the event aimed to prepare TPHP graduates to be industry-ready for the food sector while supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly in improving education quality, creating decent job opportunities, and promoting economic growth.

This event aimed to broaden insights, align perceptions, and enhance lecturers’ skills in product development and production at the pilot scale.
Held on Tuesday, August 22, 2024, the event featured two experienced speakers in their respective fields: Ahmad Yama, S.T.P. (Head of Product Innovation and Development at Kalbe Nutritionals) and Ir. Rochmad Indrawanto, S.T.P., MM.T (Research & Innovation Senior Manager at PT Lautan Natural Krimerindo).
On September 9–10, 2024, the Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a guest lecture as part of the Kampus Merdeka Competition Program (PKKM), featuring Wahyu Wibowo, S.T.P., from PT Sasa Inti. The lecture was attended by undergraduate students enrolled in the Industrial Microbiology course. During the session, Wahyu Wibowo presented two main topics: Glutamic Acid Production: The Source of Umami Flavor and Tempeh Yeast Starter Production.
As part of the Kampus Merdeka Competition Program (PKKM), two lecturers from the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dr. Widiastuti Setyaningsih, S.T.P., M.Sc., and Dr. Rini Yanti, S.T.P., M.P., conducted an industrial internship in Makassar from July 14–20, 2024. This program aimed to identify real-world conditions and gather insights into various challenges in the industrial sector, which could serve as valuable discussion and evaluation materials for students.
Yogyakarta, September 30 – October 9, 2024 — The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted a training program for 12 vocational high school (SMK) teachers from various regions across Indonesia. The training aimed to equip these educators with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills in proximate analysis (including moisture, ash, protein, fat, and fiber content), microbiological testing, and organoleptic evaluation of food products. Additionally, the program sought to enhance the participants’ ability to design and implement project-based learning in the field of food technology.
Yogyakarta, September 11 and 13, 2024 – The Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a guest lecture as part of the Plant Design course, in line with the activities of the Kampus Merdeka Competition Program (PKKM). For this event, TPHP invited Jessy Budi Harsono, Managing Director of PT Jes dan Tirta, a company known for its Sarsaparilla beverages. As a successful TPHP alumnus turned entrepreneur, Ms. Jessy shared real-world applications of the knowledge gained during his studies.
The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Workshop on the Dissemination of Student Research Outcomes as part of the Merdeka Campus Competition Program (PKKM) on Monday, October 28. This workshop aimed to strengthen the institution’s recognition on a global scale and featured two prominent keynote speakers: Prof. Purwiyatno Hariyadi (Professor at IPB University) and Prof. Ardiansyah (Professor at Bakrie University), both well-known for their strategic approaches to institutional reputation building.
Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture series featuring Maria Nur Haryati from PT Sriboga Flour Mills. The lecture was integrated into the undergraduate course Legumes, Cereals, and Tuber Technology and delivered in two sessions: “Wheat and Flour Technology” on September 23, 2024, conducted onsite at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, and “Wheat Flour Application” on October 14, 2024, held online via Zoom.

Maria began by tracing the historical roots of wheat cultivation, dating back to ancient civilizations in modern-day Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, eventually reaching China by 2700 BCE. Today, China remains the world’s largest wheat producer, followed by the European Union and India, while Indonesia ranks among the top wheat consumers, relying heavily on imports.
