Guest Lecture on Entrepreneurship I: Entrepreneurial Character

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, a guest lecture on entrepreneurship was held with Ir. Erista Adisetya, M.M. as the speaker. The theme was “Entrepreneurial Character”, aimed at providing deeper insight into the characteristics an entrepreneur must possess.

An entrepreneur’s income can be derived from two main types: Active Income and Passive Income. Active Income refers to income earned from active work, such as being an employee, selling skills, or working independently in specialized professions like doctors or accountants. Passive Income is generated from business or investments, such as owning a company or investing in capital and money markets. read more

Yogyakarta, September 11 and 13, 2024 – The Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a guest lecture as part of the Plant Design course, in line with the activities of the Kampus Merdeka Competition Program (PKKM). For this event, TPHP invited Jessy Budi Harsono, Managing Director of PT Jes dan Tirta, a company known for its Sarsaparilla beverages. As a successful TPHP alumnus turned entrepreneur, Ms. Jessy shared real-world applications of the knowledge gained during his studies. read more

Guest Lecture on Cereal and Tuber Technology Explores Wheat Processing and Applications in the Food Industry

Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP), Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture series featuring Maria Nur Haryati from PT Sriboga Flour Mills. The lecture was integrated into the undergraduate course Legumes, Cereals, and Tuber Technology and delivered in two sessions: “Wheat and Flour Technology” on September 23, 2024, conducted onsite at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, and “Wheat Flour Application” on October 14, 2024, held online via Zoom.

Wheat and Flour Technology

Maria began by tracing the historical roots of wheat cultivation, dating back to ancient civilizations in modern-day Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, eventually reaching China by 2700 BCE. Today, China remains the world’s largest wheat producer, followed by the European Union and India, while Indonesia ranks among the top wheat consumers, relying heavily on imports. read more

Exploring the Sensory World: Unlocking Nature Through Taste

The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada welcomed students to another inspiring guest lecture on Thursday, November 28. The session featured M. Danu P. Kuntoro, S.T.P., a 2000 TPHP alumnus and current R&D Reaction Product Manager at PT Indesso Aroma. With the theme “Unlocking Nature Through Taste: A Sensory Journey into the Heart of Flavors”, the lecture delved into the critical role of sensory evaluation in food product development.

To set the tone for the session, Mr. Danu engaged students with an interactive quiz designed to introduce the fundamentals of flavor science. The activity created an enjoyable and participatory learning environment, encouraging curiosity and attentiveness among students. During his presentation, Mr. Danu explained that the flavor industry primarily operates on a Business-to-Business (B2B) model, where custom-designed flavors are developed without retail branding. He also emphasized the importance of responding to global market trends, highlighting the rise of Korean food flavors in the Indonesian market. read more

As part of the 2024 Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka, the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a guest lecture series on October 16, October 30, and November 13, 2024. This session invited Dr. Ulfatun Nisa, M.Biotech., Head of the Pharmaceutical Production Unit (UPF) of Traditional Health Services (Yankestrad) in Tawangmangu. The lecture, titled “Functional Foods Based on Herbs and Spices,” was attended by undergraduate students enrolled in the Functional Food course. read more

Guest Lecture on Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa Technology: Enhancing Cocoa Productivity and Quality

On October 28 and 30, 2024, the Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada held a two-day guest lecture series exclusively for students enrolled in the Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa Technology course. The sessions featured Noor Ariefandie Febrianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., a postharvest researcher from the Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute (Puslitkoka), who delivered two insightful lectures on cocoa: “Cocoa Quality: Its Relevance to Genetics, Environment, and Postharvest Technology” and “Understanding Production Processes and Quality Control in Cocoa-Based Products.” read more

Exploring Nutritional Formulation and Fortification in the Food Industry with Dr. Sunardi Siswodiharjo

The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology (TPHP) at Universitas Gadjah Mada hosted a two-session guest lecture on November 7 and 14, 2024, featuring Dr. Sunardi Siswodiharjo, a research and development consultant at PT Hatifood. The event was held as part of the Merdeka Learning Campus Competition Program (Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka/PKKM). It was attended by undergraduate students enrolled in the course Nutritional Formulation and Fortification.

Dr. Sunardi opened the lecture series with a session titled “Nutritional Formulation: A Food Industry Landscape.” He began by offering insights into the career opportunities available to food technology graduates, particularly in industrial settings, drawing on his extensive professional background, which includes guest lecturing at numerous universities, authoring books, and publishing scientific articles. Sunardi emphasized the central role of formulation in the development of food products. read more

Guest Lecture by Prof. Paul Van der Meeren Highlights the Role of Nanotechnology in Food Science

The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology welcomed Prof. Paul Van der Meeren from Ghent University, Belgium, as a guest lecturer on November 13, 2024. The lecture, titled “Food Applications of Nanotechnology: A Case Study of (Nano)Dispersions and Nano-emulsions,” was part of the Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka and aimed to provide students with valuable international exposure. 

Open to the public and mandatory for undergraduate students enrolled in the “Physical Properties of Foods and Agricultural Products” course, the event was designed to cultivate students’ critical and creative thinking skills while introducing them to the latest advancements in food technology. read more

The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a guest lecture titled “Catering Business Management” on Monday, March 10, 2025. This session featured Frederic Arnold Wibowo, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Jolly Bakery, Padi Resto, Java Zest Bakery, and Rumpun Padi Resto. During his lecture, Frederic shared effective strategies for managing catering businesses efficiently and sustainably.

He began by emphasizing the importance of good practices in business, a high-quality product, and establishing clear operational standards. Consistency in taste can be achieved through the use of weighing scales during production, while selecting the right serving tools can enhance the overall customer experience. read more

TPHP UGM Held Training on Centrifuge Use and Maintenance

Guest Lecture Monday, 14 July 2025

The Department of Food and Agricultural Product Technology conducted a laboratory training session focused on the use and maintenance of centrifuges. Taking place on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, this session continued the department’s previous training on micropipette use. The event was open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, and was mandatory for all laboratory technicians within the TPHP Department.

Chaerunisa Ramadhani Putri delivered the training from PT Infiniti Bioanalitika Solusindo, which was divided into two main sessions: theory and practice. In the theoretical session, participants were introduced to the basic principles of centrifugation, different types of rotors, and the distinction between RPM (revolutions per minute) and RCF (relative centrifugal force). It was emphasized that even at the same RPM, different rotor radii will result in varying RCF values. read more
