The Department of Food Technology and Agricultural Products (TPHP) has long established international cooperation with prestigious universities in the world, one of which is the University of Cadiz (UCA), Spain. Since 2020, through the Inter-institutional Agreement, various forms of cooperation have been carried out in improving academic quality for both parties, one of which is Staff Mobility for TPHP and UCA teaching lecturers. Through funding by the European Union through the Erasmus + KA107 scheme, the Head of the Master of Food Science and Technology Study Program, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Nur Cahyanto, M.Sc. had the opportunity to become a Visiting Lecturer for a week on May 9-13, 2022 at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Food Technology, Faculty of Science, UCA, namely in the Food Biotechnology course which is intended for Bachelor in Biotechnology students.
The guest lecture was held over 2 days, namely on Wednesday and Thursday, May 11-12, 2022. The topic presented by him was fermentation technology, namely tempe and tape fermentation. This attracted the attention of UCA students because the yeast used for the fermentation process of both foods uses native Indonesian strains. The class was interactive with many two-way discussions.
In addition to giving a guest lecture, Dr. Muhammad Nur Cahyanto also had the opportunity to visit the winery accompanied by several UCA students, eight students of Master of Food Science and Technology and Master of Plantation Product Technology TPHP UGM who were carrying out student mobility, and Prof. Ana Belen. He also visited IVAGRO (Instituto de Investigación Vitivinícola y Agroalimentaria) with Prof. Christina to find out about the pilot wine plant in the factory. Dr. Muhammad Nur Cahyanto also had the opportunity to see research on anaerobic digestion and also promotional activities for high school students visiting UCA.
In strengthening cooperation between the Department of TPHP and UCA, Dr. Muhammad Nur Cahyanto also had many discussions with Prof. Miguel Palma Lovillo, as Head of IVAGRO, one of which was related to the progress of joint research carried out by 7 Master of Food Science and Technology students and 1 Master of Plantation Products Technology student.
