Waste Management Laboratory

The Waste Management Laboratory is a laboratory in the Department of Food and Agricultural Products Technology whose function is to develop techniques for processing and utilizing food waste and agricultural products through the application of microbiology, chemistry, and process engineering.

    • Waste utilization (agro-industrial waste)
    • Waste handling (handling in physics, chemistry, biology)
    • Development of waste minimization techniques (environmentally friendly agro-industry)

    • Waste Management
    • Waste Management – Laboratory Practice

    • Production of cellulases & xylanases for the preparation of fermentation substrates from agro-industrial wastes
    • Pre-treatment of agro-industrial waste for bioethanol and biogas production
    • Production of volatile fatty acids from empty oil palm fruit bunches
    • Breeding of microorganisms for the utilization of agro-industrial waste
    • Ethanol production from agro-industrial waste
    • Biogas from tropical fruit waste

    • Analysis of solids in food industry waste and agricultural products
    • Analysis of BOD and COD in liquid waste
    • Analysis of CH4, CO2, ethanol, methanol, cresol, phenol, indole and volatile fatty acids (acetic acid, butyric acid, and propionic acid)

    • Agro-industrial waste processing training
    • Training on the analysis of liquid waste from the food industry and agricultural products
